The Maze Runner by James Dashner is a dystopian science fiction book that follows the story of main character Thomas as he is launched into a world full of unknowns. Thomas is sent into the middle of a maze where he has no recollection of anything outside of the maze. There is a haven in the middle, a town where people flourish, where people have accepted they will never get out of the maze. Thomas won’t accept this though, Thomas wants out.

I found Thomas to be a very interesting character because he would not conform to the normal like everyone else. Thomas wanted answers as to why they were there and how they were going to get out. “It’s kind of hard to ask a dead guy what he did wrong”, this quote by one of the other Maze Runners directed at Thomas is telling Thomas off for not caring about the death of his friend and instead just still asking questions. Thomas was always thinking of the bigger picture and never really stopped to think in the moment. A quality I respect of Thomas is his curiosity and his courage to find answers even when sometimes the answers may not be the ones he was looking for. I respect this because I know if I was in the same situation I would be wanting answers like Thomas and so I can relate to him.

A Message I took from the text is that if you go searching for answers you will sometimes get the answers you wanted but sometimes get answers that only make things worse. I took this message from the text because Thomas was always looking for answers about why things happened and a lot of the time the answer he got was very far from the answer he wanted. I can relate this to everyday life not personally but from a movie I watched recently, that was based on a true story. In the movie, the main character finds his dad after years of disappearance but all that did was unravel a whole lifetime of lies and turn him against everyone he had previously loved. 

A challenge that Thomas had to deal with was the whole arriving in the maze and having to come to terms with what was going on. Arriving in a new place is hard enough, but it’s even harder when you have no memory of your previous life and or why you are where you are now. This is a huge challenge that Thomas had to face, the only thing he could do was forget the small things and try and find answers, which is exactly what he did. I can really relate to this as I have been the new kid before and sure I had my memory so our stories have their differences but still, I understand what it must have been like for Thomas when everyone already has their friends and you are an outsider.

The title of the text “Maze Runner” is like most other texts very suitable for the book because after all the book is about running the maze. I think its a very good title because it is very enticing for readers and they will see it and wonder what the book is about so they end up reading it. I would recommend this book to just about anyone, it is a very good book that has a great storyline and a lot of action that will hold you to your seat. Anyone who hasn’t read this yet should immediately.

In conclusion, I think Maze Runner is a wonderful book that I will definitely read again someday and had a great time reading it now.
